# Big Maths

## At All Saints we use a maths scheme called Big Maths

#### CLIC

CLIC sessions build up a child’s knowledge so that they will always have the basic skills in place in order to secure a new skill. A session usually lasts 20 minutes with roughly 5 minutes spent on each area:

C- Counting

L – Learn Its

I – It’s Nothing New

C – Calculation

#### Wider Maths

Part of our wider maths learning at All Saints is guided by the SAFE sessions from Big Maths.

S – Shape

A – Amounts

F – Fractions

E – Explaining Data

#### Learn Its

You may recognise terms like Number Facts or Number Bonds. Number Facts are simple sums are vitally important for children to learn and be able to recall them instantly, (with no thinking time). In Big Maths we call them ‘Learn Its’. This title is simple because it perfectly describes what we want children to do, ‘Just learn it!’.

One way that you can support your child’s maths learning at home is to practise their Learn Its.

Year 1 will learn the following Learn Its:

1 + 1 = 2 | 2 + 2 = 4 | 3 + 3 = 6 | 4 + 4 = 8 | 5 + 5 = 10 | 2 + 1 = 3 |2 + 3 = 5 | counting in multiples of 10

Year 2 will learn the following Learn Its:

6 + 6 = 12 | 7 + 7 = 14 | 8 + 8 = 16 | 9 + 9 = 18 | 2 + 8 = 10 | 3 + 7 = 10 | 4 + 6 = 10 | 4 + 2 = 6 | 5 + 2 = 7 | 6 + 2 = 8 | 7 + 2 = 9 | 9 + 2 = 11 | 4 + 3 = 7 | 5 + 3 = 8 | 6 + 3 = 9 | counting in multiples of 5 and 2

One way in which Learn Its are taught in Big Maths is through song. You can find the songs and more information about supporting home learning with Big Maths here.
